4th of July....

I love the fourth of July it's my favorite holiday! I love it more then Christmas. What i love about the fourth of July is the fact that we celebrate our freedom. I love the parades, the picnics, the fireworks, bbq's and seeing the American Flag posted everywhere you go. It gives me a sense of pride in being American and living in a free country even though the price we pay is not free! I guess since my dad was in the military for a part of my life then it makes me proud. But something that kind of bothers me is the fact that we have treated fellow Americans so horribly. Landi and I watched a show called Cold Case and it's about these cases that don't get solved so they sit on the shelf for years wiht no new leads. Well there was this one episode that we watched about a Japanese American who was born and raised in America was murdered right after WWII ended. His son had been fighting in the war after a couple of years of being locked up in the Japanese concentration camps that were here during WWII because of what happened at Pearl Harbor. The son dies in the war but dies a hero and derserves a medal so his dad talks to his sons best friend about it who happens to be a white military man. The best friend says that the son doesn't deserve it because he is just another "jap" invading our country. It bothers me I guess because if this is a land of so called freedom for everyone around the world to come and enjoy new oppurtunities for jobs, religion and schools treats anyone who isn't white with proper respect. Same thing goes with all the African Americans that have come to this country. I have really been in to reading about the Civil Rights Movement lately and it seems hard to believe what these people went through just a few short years ago when you think about it to gain independence. It just bothers me that people would treat others with such disrespect. Anyways Landi and I went to a parade at 9 am on Friday morning. After the parade we went to Broulims to get our car (after paying $300 to get the stupid brakes fixed) and this old lady had parked her car next to ours so we couldn't get out. We sat by our car for about half an hour (and took pictures) waiting for the person to come out. She hopped in her car like nothing happened and drove off. We were to say the least mad that she had parked her car so close and didn't even bother to try and say something about it. Anyways we went home cleaned the house and had some lunch. After a couple of hours at home we left for Idaho Falls to watch the fireworks show that they do every year by the temple. As we were watching the fireworks show then the missionaries walked by and some people yelled "Joseph Smith is ______(fill in the blank)!" Another thing that had ticked me off! It was a really good fourth of July except for a few little incidents.
